While our firm has published a variety of websites using many back end solutions and programming languages, including Drupal, Joomla, HTML, Cold Fusion, and more, we made the choice to standardize our efforts on WordPress for a variety of reasons. WordPress is both powerful and capable. It is widely adopted and supported by a robust developer community. It is efficient and enables non-programmers to get work done so much faster than they otherwise would. It is widely supported. It is scalable. And you can leverage the efforts of others rather than reinventing the wheel each time you have a new idea. In other words, WordPress is nearly perfect. We use the word nearly because WordPress can also be problematic.
The Pitfalls of Too Many Bells and Whistles
This same fantastic system that helps our team find solutions to problems that have already been created by other developers, can also result in too many plugins made by too many people. And a lot of those plug-ins are not of sufficient quality, or updated frequently enough, or secure enough to be deployed in a production environment. That is the chief problem we see with WordPress. We have witnessed unskilled web designers slapping WordPress plugins together maybe 10 or 20 at a time to create seemingly fantastic and inspiring website, but without care or concern about usability or speed or security. Or perhaps resulting in 50/100 scores in Google’s speed testing. Or a site that is simply not user-friendly or designed for conversions.
So that is the downside of WordPress. But we got beyond that years ago. We standardized in WordPress and partnered with the largest enterprise hosting company devoted to WordPress applications. We adopted their strict rigorous testing methods and implemented a strict set of security policies.
Best of Breed WordPress Plugins
We developed our own best of breed plugins and created a short list of fast, search engine optimized plugins that – when combined with the fastest most effective hosting platform for WordPress in the world – results in screaming fast websites that score as high as 100 in Google’s speed tests.
And the plugins we developed are fantastic, too. Based on years of working in the industry, we found where there was significant unmet need. From that, we created the perfect WordPress before and after photo gallery plugin. We created a very capable video gallery plugin. And we have developed a very effective reputation and review plugin. Each of these is combined with our optimization of the Genesis framework on top of WordPress. Genesis is built for speed and SEO and leverages condensed code, optimized modules, and more to ensure the best results possible.
