Content is very important when advertising cosmetic surgery on the Internet. Lots of keyword-rich content can bring more targeted traffic to your website through the search engines. Further, some 75% of Internet users use the Internet for medical research. Many of your potential patients will be seeking out information about cosmetic surgery procedures and plastic surgeons, and you can satisfy their needs by providing them with valuable, informative content.
When it comes to the search engines, however, the content on your site must be original content and not duplicate content. In fact, Google and possibly some other search engines apply what’s known as a duplicate content penalty if your site contains information that’s mostly the same as other content from elsewhere on your own site and from other websites.
Duplicate content is considered by many search engines as a form of spam. The search engines have been cracking down on spam in recent years, and Google in particular on duplicate content. One form of duplicate content that Google is concerned about is when a single page is repeated multiple times with only a few small changes in the wording. Some websites will list the same page hundreds or thousands of times, and the main purpose in so doing is to obtain high ranks in the search engines for a large variety of keywords. Some sites do this with content relevant to their website topic, while others use keywords that are completely unrelated.
Another form of duplicate content that concerns Google involves affiliate programs. Affiliates may use the same template, which can result in thousands of websites promoting the same things that are virtually identical. Websites which include either of these forms of duplicate content are likely to find themselves banned from the search engines.
There is a third type of duplicate content in which a website may have content that is virtually the same as other websites across the Internet. While this may not get you banned from the search engines, it can keep you from getting good rankings in Google and other major search engines given that their goal is to index and provide as much quality, unique content as possible.
