Speeding Things Up On Your Site

Speed is an integral part of your website. It can be just as important a factor in your site’s success as the design and even the promotion. The most common complaint among Internet surfers, according to studies, is the slow-loading web page. It’s estimated that visitors will leave a site if a page has not opened within ten seconds, likely shorter.

Each visitor’s connection speed determines the load time of a website. Not everyone is equipped with a cable modem or other high-speed access, and many still use 56k modems. Since there’s nothing that site owners can do about this, they have no choice but to work with it.

There are several things that can slow down a site, and it’s important to consider them when it comes to cosmetic surgery marketing. Flash, though a great design feature, is one of these. Flash can slow down load times and, worse, not all browsers can accommodate Flash. Images can also slow down web pages, particularly if large images or a large quantity of images are used. Images should be no larger than they need to be, and pages with many images will do better if those images are used as thumbnails. The size of a page can impact the time it takes to load as well. Because lager pages take longer to load, it’s best to keep your pages as small as possible. Further, visitors tend to dislike pages which require that they scroll down. Long articles should be broken up into two or more pages. Java scripts, though very popular, can cause problems, making pages slow to load and even causing browsers to crash. There is no better way to drive visitors from your site and keep them from coming back than a crashed browser.

If you provide good, quality information on your website that serves your visitors, they generally won’t miss the fancy designs and other bells and whistles.
