Not only are Snapchat ads being viewed up to a million times a day, their video views are now surpassing Facebook’s! Everyone knows that mobile is the future, so of course 60% of all smartphone users are now on Snapchat.

So what do these statistics mean for you? It’s clear that Snapchat is on it’s way to reign king — are you taking advantage of this platform? If you think that plastic surgery won’t attract a crowd, you’re definitely wrong. Take Dr. Miami as a prime example of someone in the aesthetic surgery industry who seized this platform to gain advantage over his competition — his Snapchat has an average of 100,00 views per hour.

If you’re a surgeon completely new to this platform, here are a few things to consider.

Pros

  • It can show a more human-like feel to your brand.
  • It can show off the doctor’s expertise through live taping and post-op patients.
  • It can be informative for viewers and prospective patients.
  • Can allow you to be transparent with your viewers – nothing to hide.

  • Utilizing Snapchat as a form of social media marketing is probably the most challenging platform due to its lack of availability – it can only be viewed through the app. Because the content is never permanent, updating fresh new content can be exhaustive.
  • 71% of Snapchat users are in the age range of 18-34. Keep that in mind when branding your social media’s personality.

 

Tips

  • Provide access to live events.
    • Similar to Dr. Miami’s Snapchat (one of the top Snapchatters in 2016), recording the doctors performing their surgery can attract a certain crowd. It can also showcase the doctor’s work.
      • If you decide to do so, obtain signed consent forms.
      • Before the actual video of the surgery, create one before to use as a disclaimer for the following graphic images.
      • Offer patients the right to delete or remove content posted online that they changed their minds about.
      • Have music playing in the background during surgeries. Have the doctor talk about the procedure.
    • Post events, birthdays, parties, that would be going on currently in the office.
  • Offer contests and promotions via Snapchat. Providing exclusive offers through this platform can entice people to follow.
    • Example: Use this exclusive Snapchat code and receive a 10% off Restylane filler when you come by the office.
  • Offer Q&A sessions on a particular day. You would probably start off with answering questions that you’ve created, but later on when you get more followers, ask them to send you questions via Snapchat chat.
  • If you’re planning on presenting a post-op patient, before you capture their after on camera, try to post a picture of their before, and give some facts such as when they got it done, etc.
