Last year, we lived through Google’s Panda and Penguin updates, and we saw a trend towards “local” optimization and quality content. In the New Year, you may be contemplating, how your current Internet marketing strategy should be adjusted. For starters, a well thought out link building strategy, is going to play an important role in your online success. I’ve collected a few useful tips and tricks, you can implement, for a Google-friendly, better-rounded, and successful link building strategy in 2013.
In 2013, less may be more and quality wins over quantity.
While it’s important that your link building strategy relies on unique and quality content, it is also very important that your external links come from a variety of sources and your anchor text is diversified.
Your Link Sources Should Include:
#1 Social Media
Google has put a growing emphasis on social engagement in its search algorithm, so it is an excellent link source. Take advantage of your free profiles on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and Google+, to create frequent, consistent, engaging posts that are geared toward your target audience, and display your expertise. Also, be sure your social media profiles are optimized! For instance, by simply adding a link in both the Web and Bio fields for your Twitter profile, you can optimize your Twitter account to help build links.
#2 Guest blog posts
Become a guest blogger on a few high quality sites, related to your field. These blogs can provide valuable backlinks to your site, and further position you as the expert in your field.
List your practice in local, niche directories, chambers of commerce and hyper-local sites (miami.com and the305.com). If your business is already listed, be sure to claim and optimize your listing.
If you already have a favorite charity or non-profit organizations you donate to, see if they have a donor section on their site online, where your business could be listed or seriously consider donating.
#5 Press releases
Publishing a press release about something new and exciting at your practice is a great way to increase your online exposure. Whether you are offering a new procedure, recently hosted an event or a new doctor joined your practice, these topics can all make for a great press release.
Your Anchor Text should be diverse, using:
- Brand links: YourDomain.com, www.YourDomain.com, or YourDomain.
- Anchor text keyword links: These should be less than 50% and should point to the most appropriate page on your site.
- Partial-match keyword links: Avoid over-optimization with exact match keywords. Instead target partial matches as well i.e. “rhinoplasty” instead of “rhinoplasty in New York”.
- Generic links: “Read More”, “See More”, or “Click Here”.
- Page title links: Links that are the same as your page title.
This year’s link building strategy may force you to think outside the box, I hope my tips will help you make it a successful 2013 link building year!
