Whether you’re advertising cosmetic surgery or any other business on the Internet, using pull-quotes in your website design can be very beneficial. A pull-quote, also known as a call out, is a small section of text that is pulled out and quoted and set apart from the rest of the text, typically by using a different or larger font.
Pull-quotes have long been used in print to attract attention, particularly in long articles. They are, however, especially apropos for use on the Internet. It’s been proven that people read text on the Internet differently then they do in print. Reading on a computer screen is more challenging on the eyes, and people tend to scan text rather than read every single word. Pull-quotes can be used to grab and hold a visitor’s attention while they’re scanning and highlight important information.
When using pull-quotes on your website, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, differentiate the pull-quote from the rest of the text on the page by using a different type or different sized font or by bolding or italicizing the font. The pull-quote should be set inside of a table, and you might want to consider using a background color in the table that is different from the background of the rest of the page. This will help to emphasize the pull quote, but make sure that the color you choose still complements the rest of the colors on the page and the overall design. In addition, when quoting directly from the text, use quotation marks.
