Outbound Links in Plastic Surgery MarketingOutbound or outgoing links are quite controversial. It’s certainly clear that incoming links are a plus for any website given that Google and other search enginges rank web pages according to the quantity and quality of their inbound links, but outgoing links are another story. There are those who believe that outgoing links can help a site’s ranked position, but others will tell you that they’re a very bad thing. The naysayers believe that outgoing links can drain a page’s PR (Google’s PageRank) or other link popularity and reduce their rank position in search engines. Further, they argue that these links hand valuable visitors over to other sites. There are lots of tricks used to avoid problems with outgoing links. For instance, some will use JavaScript on them, which search engines cannot follow, in order to protect against PR loss. Others will keep pages with outgoing links from being indexed by search engines by using a Meta Robot Tag with ‘Noindex’ or ‘Nofollow’. Some will even make a link appear as normal text on a page. Sometimes it seems that we’ve forgotten who we’re creating websites and web pages for. Is it for the search engine robots or the real human visitors to the site? While you can please the search engines and get tons of visitors to your site, unless you please those visitors as well you’ve really gotten nowhere. Whether search engines like outgoing links or not, it’s important to remember that visitors to your site can benefit from the right outgoing links. Certainly you don’t want outgoing links pointing to just about anywhere, but if you have outgoing links to a site that is relevant to your site, how could you or your visitors possibly lose? There are a number of outgoing links that could be quite beneficial for a website for a plastic surgery practice. For instance, you might have a link to implant manufacturers on a breast augmentation page, or to plastic surgery societies or organizations on your credentials page, or to a recent plastic surgery related news article.
