ComScore Declares Big Six Still Dominating In Search

According to a report by comScore Media Metrix on Friday, the six big search engines (Google, Yahoo!, MSN, AOL, Ask Jeeves, and InfoSpace) are still dominating the search market despite the appearance of several niche search engines during the past year. From July of 2004 to July of 2005, the percent of total searches held by the six increased from 98.5% to 99.4%.

During the month of July, the top three included Google with 36.5% of all searches, Yahoo! with 30.5%, and MSN with 15.5%. Though MSN still lags behind Google and Yahoo, they showed the greatest search volume gain, rising 30% from the previous year with 744 million domestic searches. The total volume of searches handled by all search engines in the U.S. market over the past year increased 22% to over 4.8 billion searches.
