Internet Users Less Trusting

A recent study conducted by Consumer Reports WebWatch has found that Internet users have become less trusting. With the rising amount of identity theft, people appear to be increasingly afraid of victimization via high-tech means.

1,500 U.S. Internet users aged eighteen and older were surveyed. According to the study, some Internet users are reducing the amount of time they spend surfing the Internet, with nearly a third of all surveyed reporting that they’ve reduced their overall web site use. Most users questioned have stopped providing personal information over the Web. Further, one quarter of those surveyed have stopped making online purchases altogether. It was found that a whopping 80% have concerns of identity theft through personal information provided over the Internet.
