Marketing News: 100 Million Firefox Downloads And Counting

Did you think Internet Explorer was the only real browser of note? Well, think again. On the brink of celebrating its first birthday, the Firefox Web browser has surpassed 100 million downloads.

Firefox has been touted by supporters as a more secure, innovative and feature-rich browser than Microsoft's Internet Explorer. It is the first real competitor of note for IE, chipping away at their hold on the Web browser market to currently own between 7% and 9% of the market.

According to the Mozilla Foundation, the success is due to their developers and the Spread Firefox community, who are responsible for developing, testing and marketing the browser. Firefox's first major upgrade, Version 1.5, is in testing and due for release by the end of the year.
