Hits and Visitors

Are hits the same as visitors?

These are two different aspects of website traffic.

A hit represents any and all elements of your website that transfers over the internet. That would include things such as graphics, flash elements, and other parts of the content. This would mean a single page could represent 50 hits.

A visit on the other hand means just that. Your log will record each visit to your site. One thing to note though is that visits is the combines number meaning if one person visits your site 3 times during the course of the day, the log file will show 3 visits. Your unique count would be only 1 as each visitor can only uniquly visit your site once a day.
