Do search engines all work the same?

If I submit to one of the engines, won’t they all pick up my site the same?

No. Search engines have different criteria for how they return search results, and most tend to change their algorithms on a regular basis. So this means that you will have to submit to each of them, and you will have to stay on top of them on a regular basis.
