Internet Advertising For Cosmetic Surgeons: Optimizing Your Website's Photos

When it comes to Internet advertising for cosmetic surgeons, photos and images are an essential element of a website. Visitors to your site are most likely seeking some ideal of beauty, and images are one of the best ways to convey your message. Further, before and after photos of your previous patients can speak volumes. These photos lend you credibility, allowing visitors to your site to see that you are a real surgeon with real patients. They can also speak for your work far better than even the very best copywriting or sales pitch.

When it comes to incorporating images into a website, however, too many people fail to optimize those images for the web. When not properly optimized, images can be slow to load or fail to load altogether, which are sure ways to drive visitors away. As such, there are several things to keep in mind when utilizing photos and images on your website.

  • Keep a back up. Be sure to keep a back up of the original, untouched image. Work from a copy of the image rather than altering the original itself.
  • Crop your images. Because larger photos take longer to load, always crop out anything that isn't essential.
  • Resize. Resize your photos to reduce the pixels, having the largest size no more than 250 pixels or 96 dpi.
  • Reduce your colors. Most images have millions of colors. Though you will lose some depth, it's best to reduce the color palette of an image to 256.
  • Use a standard format. Be sure to save your image file in a standard format, such as JPEG or GIF.
