Internet Terms Defined, AdditionsVisitors The number of distinct people visiting your site. Page Views The number of web pages and amount of times they have been viewed by visitors to your site. Each time a visitor, even the same visitor, views a page it is considered a new page view. Referrer URL The website that a person visits your site from. For instance, this may be a search engine or another site that has a link to your website. Referrer URLs are the sites which are providing you with traffic. Targeted Traffic The traffic or people coming to your site in search of the specific product, service or information your are offering. Search engines and directories typically provide highly targeted traffic. Page Creation Tools Tools, such as Netscape Composer, which allows you to work with a single HTML document at a time. Site Creation Tools Tools, such as MS Front Page, which allow you to work with several HTML documents at once. WYSIWYG HTML Editor Pronounced We-z-Wig' and short for What You See Is What You Get'. A program, such as Netscape Composer, which creates the HTML page for you, automatically inserting all tags. HTML Validation A program which determines if there are any errors in the HTML code of a web page. Spider The robot that is sent out by a search engine, such as Google, to record information about your website which is then added to the search engine's database. The process is also known as indexing. Autoresponder Software which automatically sends a prewritten reply in response to emails. |
