Images, Download Times And Cosmetic Surgery Marketing On The Internet

Images can play an essential role of a website when it comes to cosmetic surgery marketing on the Internet. Good before-and-after photographs of your previous patients can often speak more of your qualifications as a surgeon than even the best written copy. Further, as a plastic surgeon, you epitomize an ideal of beauty and that must be conveyed on your website. This is often best achieved with an appealing design that includes images of attractive people.

Unfortunately, images can be a problem when it comes to website design. One of the main concerns of Internet users involves slow loading web pages, and images and graphics are often to blame. An image can make a website more appealing to visitors provided that it's relevant and carefully sized. When images are used incorrectly, such as when they're too large, they can have a very negative effect, actually sending visitors away who don't want to sit and wait for an image to load. Because of this, it's important that you use images on your website the right way and ensure that your pages, even with graphics, will always load quickly. The following are tips to help you do just that:

  • Reuse your images. The same images can be used on multiple pages throughout your site. The importance of this is that visitors need only wait once for a single download as the image is then cached on their computer and immediately displayed when encountered again. Not only does this help to decrease download times for your visitors, it can also decrease your development time.
  • Optimize your images. All of the images used on your website should be optimized for maximum benefit. GIFs and JPEGs are the most commonly used formats for images. Graphics with few colors are best formatted as GIFs, while photographs and images with complex color shadings are best formatted as JPEGs. With GIF images, it's best to limit the dimensions of the image and keep it small, crop out anything unnecessary such as background and white space, and reduce the image's bit depth. With JPEG images, it's best to slightly blur the image and to use a graphics program that allows you to preview varying compression levels. You may need to take some time to manipulate your images to get them exactly as you want them, but it's definitely worth the effort. Also be sure to always keep a copy of the original, untouched images.
  • Preload your images. Images can be preloaded using JavaScript. This allows the rest of the page to load quickly while the images load in the background. Even with browsers that don't recognize JavaScript, the page will simply load as usual without the images preloading.
