Finding A Web Designer: Questions You Should Ask

Finding a good web designer can be a difficult task. Whether you’re a newcomer to the Internet or looking to revamp your current plastic surgery website, it’s important that you find a qualified and experienced designer who will work with you to meet your Internet goals. The following are helpful questions that you should ask any potential web designer:

  • What is your experience? Because the Internet is relatively new and constantlychanging, the number of years of experience that a particular web designer has may not be as important as their actual ability. Also keep in mind that the rate a designer charges is not always a reflection of their ability. You should specifically find out if the designer has experience with plastic surgery sites.
  • Can you provide samples of your work? Just as it’s in the best interest of a patient to see samples of your previous plastic surgery work, it’s also in your best interest to see samples of any potential web designer’s work. A good web designer should be able to provide you with the URLs of several sites that they have designed. You can specifically ask to see sites that would be similar to your own, sites for another plastic surgery practice or a medical-type site for instance. When reviewing these sites, check to see if they follow one standard design or if there is some variation. Don’t just look at the homepage but actually navigate through the site to determine how easy it is to use and to find things. Also take note of how appealing the site is and whether it encourages you to stay or leave.
  • Can you meet my deadline? If you have a timeline for getting your site live on the Internet, be sure to ask the designer if they can follow this timeline and meet your deadline. Provide a fixed date and be sure that this can be included in your contract. On average, most sites should be ready to go up within a month’s time, and your designer should be in contact with you on a regular basis to keep you updated on its progress.
  • How much of my time will be required? Ideally, you or members of your staff should be willing to put some time and effort into your site. For instance, potential patients may make requests for consultations through your site and these will need to be addressed. Or you may have a Q&A column allowing visitors to ask questions which will then need to be answered. The content on your site should also be regularly updated and you want to find out if your designer will do this or if you will be required to.
