Domain Name Backordering
Domain name backordering is a service available to the public in which anyone can reserve a domain name for when it becomes available in the future. While this may sound like a harmless, perhaps even beneficial, service, it can prove detrimental for owners of those domains. In essence, it's possible for your domain to be backordered right out from under you. Website URLs that seem popular or particularly well-matched for a certain company are being backordered by businesses all across the Internet. Unfortunately, if for any reason your forget to re-order your domain name or are a little late in doing so, you may have your domain taken by backorder. This isn't all that unlikely a scenario. It's certainly possible that you'd go on vacation or be in the hospital and be unable to check your email for a few days, thus missing those notices to renew your domain. Due to a simple oversight or mistake, another company could take over ownership of your domain name. In most cases, you're simply out of luck and you're sure to lose a great deal of traffic as a result. Visitors typing in your URL looking for you will find another company, possibly another plastic surgery practice, in your place. Avoid making this very devastating mistake by keeping up to date on your registration. In fact, it's safest to renew your domain name for at least five years. |
