Marketing Medical Practices On The Internet: Designing Printer-Friendly Pages

Most of us have come across a page on a website that we want to print. This can pose a problem because, on many websites, it's impossible to print just the content that you want without also printing a whole bunch of other stuff that you don't want, such as sidebar items, banner ads, and the like. If it's happened to you, you know that it can be frustrating. Don't frustrate visitors to your site in the same way. Instead, incorporate a printer-friendly option on some of the pages on your site that are more likely to be printed.

This can be very important when it comes to marketing medical practices on the Internet, particularly plastic surgery practices. Many people coming to your website will do so in search of information about plastic surgery procedures. They may want to know what a particular surgery entails, what the associated complications are, what the recovery time is like and so on. This is exactly the sort of information that people want to print for later use and review. There is an additional benefit in that, by including your contact information on these pages, you and your practice remain in the visitors' minds even when off the Internet and they can easily get in touch with you.

When creating printer-friendly pages, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. First is the page layout. Though pages utilizing columns, bulleted lists and graphics are user-friendly for online readers, they're generally not printer-friendly. As such, it's best to provide visitors with two versions of some pages, one for user-friendly reading online and a text-only version that is readable and compact for offline reading. The text-only version usually needs to be of a smaller width. The text should be left justified and it should be black set against a white background. It is also important to ensure that your navigation allows visitors to find their way out of your printer-friendly version and back to the previous page.
