Doctor Website Basics: Layout and Color

There are several basic rules when it comes to page layout and color, and when it comes to marketing plastic surgery, you should keep them in mind. These rules apply to your plastic surgery website just as they would to any other type of site. Though there are always exceptions, the most successful sites out there adhere to these rules as closely possible.

When it comes to layout, the first rule regards the use of tables. Using tables or other similar features in your design that set apart important text can be very beneficial. Not only do they highlight that text, they can also break up a large chunk of boring text. However, the rule with tables is to use them wisely and in moderation. Don’t put all of a page’s text in a box. After all, that defeats the purpose of setting important text apart. Another important rule with layout involves the division of a page. It’s best to divide a page into thirds rather than halves. The most important objects, such as headings, photos and other images, should be placed in the top third and the bottom third of the page.

When it comes to color, choose your colors carefully and use them wisely. While you should choose more than one color, it’s still best to use color sparingly. Color can be used to highlight important headings and text, but if you use too much color you lose the impact. Also be sure to use contrasting colors for your background and text. A dark text, such as black, on a light background, such as white, is best and makes the text easiest to read. Avoid placing text on a similar background color or on patterned backgrounds. Though light text can be used on dark backgrounds, this should be done sparingly because it does prove harder on the eyes. Complementary colors refer to those colors appearing opposite one another on the color wheel, blue and orange being one example. Though complementary colors may work well together in real life, they should be avoided on the Internet as they can be glaring to the eye and often appear to vibrant.
